The Crimson Tide in a tie for 12th place with a 12-over par 296
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team finished play in the opening round of The Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham on Monday, closing the day in a tie for 12th overall with a 12-over par 296.
North Florida, ranked No. 22 in the nation, owns the clubhouse lead after finishing day one as the only team below par with a 1-under 283. The Ospreys hold a three-shot lead over No. 4 Clemson (286) and No. 19 Tennessee (286). Tenth-ranked Vanderbilt (287) is in fourth while No. 21 Arkansas (288) round out the top five, eight strokes better than UA.
Playing on the par 71, 7,226-yard Country Club of Birmingham West Course, the Crimson Tide is one of eight squads in the 14-team field that is ranked among the Golfstat.com top 30 entering the event.
Highlights
- Four Alabama golfers finished with matching rounds of three over par 74
- Wilson Furr, Thomas Ponder and Canon Claycomb each had four bogeys with one birdie during Monday's 18 holes, while JP Cave ended with three birdies and six bogeys
- All four golfers will enter Tuesday's second round of play in a tie for 38th
Other Alabama Golfers
- Jack Goldasich ended day one with an 84
- Tyler Lipscomb, who is competing as an individual, carded a 2-over 73 and is in a tie for 29th overall
Fun Fact
- The event was originally scheduled to be held at Shoal Creek Country Club, however, was forced to reschedule due to the damage that was done to the Shoal Creek course after the state of Alabama got hit hard with heavy storms a couple of weeks ago
