KB Sides extends her hitting streak to nine games, Montana Fouts strikes out 10
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball bounced back after losses in the weekend's first two games with a 4-2 win on Sunday over Florida.
Alabama (33-7, 12-6 SEC) took the first lead of the game in the first inning with an RBI groundout but Florida (32-6, 12-3 SEC) jumped in front with a two-run single in the top of the third. A booted ball in the bottom of the third allowed Alexis Mack to score from third on the error and tie the game and an RBI groundout from Maddie Morgan in the next at-bat put the Crimson Tide back ahead, 3-2. Alabama added another run on yet another Gator fielding error in the fourth to make it 4-2 and the Tide defense faced the minimum across the final three innings to close out the game.
KB Sides scored the Tide's first two runs and went 1-for-3 from the leadoff spot, extending her hitting streak to nine games and her reached-base streak to 18 games. Bailey Hemphill was 2-for-2 behind her with a double and a walk. Montana Fouts (14-3) earned the complete-game victory in the circle, striking out 10.
FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY
"That was a great game. Obviously, we did not want to get swept at home and I am sure they wanted to sweep us, but it just came down to grit, competitiveness and resiliency. Both teams had four hits but we played clean and they had a few mistakes which was not customary of them at all. I am really proud of our team, proud of Montana and Steph called a great game, especially after they had already faced her on Friday. Bailey Hemphill also had a great day at the plate."
