
Alabama Track and Field’s Tamara Clark Earns Spot on The Bowerman Watch List

Clark is among nine other collegians on the watch list for the prestigious award
NEW ORLEANS – Alabama track & field's senior Tamara Clark earned a spot on The Bowerman Midseason Watch List, the award committee announced Wednesday afternoon. Clark snagged the honor after an impressive performance at the Crimson Tide Invite last weekend. In addition, junior distance ace Mercy Chelangat is receiving votes for the honor.
Alabama on the Women's Watch List – April 14
- Clark posted the nation's fastest 100-meter dash time for the outdoor season this weekend at the Crimson Tide Invite, running the race in 11.07
- The Crimson Tide athlete also posted solid times as a part of the women's 4x100-meter relay (43.47) and the women's 4x400-meter relay (3:36.39)
- The Alabama sprinter also holds the nation's best 200-meter dash time (22.50) after her performance at the Florida Relays
- This is Clark's Bowerman Watch List career debut, marking the women's first showing on the watch list since Quanesha Burks in 2016
- Clark follows Burk's seven appearances on the list between 2016 and 2017 and Remona Burchell's eight appearances on the list between 2014 and 2015
- Earlier this spring, Clark performed spectacularly at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships recording personal-best times in both the 60-meter dash (7.18) and the 200-meter dash (22.45)
- The Honda Award winner for cross country, Chelangat also received votes to be on the Bowerman Watch List this week
- The Alabama distance runner has proven herself worthy of recognition holding the nation's second-best time in the women's 10k with a time of 32:31.43 that broke the Alabama program record earlier this season
- Chelangat also posted an impressive time for her first ever 1,500-meter run this past weekend at the Crimson Tide Invite, running the event in 4:19.92 and placing fourth out of 51 athletes
The Bowerman Award
- The award debuted in 2009 and is named after University of Oregon coach Bill Bowerman
- The Bowerman is awarded annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track and field athletes in the nation
- The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) presents the award each year in December

- Clark and the rest of the Crimson Tide travel squad will head to the LSU Alumni Gold meet next weekend (April 23-24) for its first of two back-to-back weekends in Baton Rouge, La.
