The Gators come in at 7-0, having already secured a share of the SEC regular-season title, while the Crimson Tide is 6-1, meaning an Alabama win would result in both team sharing the championship
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 6 Alabama gymnastics team hosts No. 1 Florida Friday night at 7:30 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. In addition to being the final meet of the regular season for both teams, it will be Senior Night for the Crimson Tide, which will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of its 1991 NCAA Championship.
An Alabama win would be cause for another championship celebration, as the Tide would earn a share of the Southeastern Conference regular-season title. Florida, 7-0 in an SEC-only schedule, as already secured a share of the title, while Alabama, at 6-1, could earn a share by downing the nation's No. 1 team. This is just the fifth year that the SEC has recognized a regular-season champion. Prior to 2017, the SEC champion was solely crowned at the SEC Championships meet, instead of both a regular-season and 'tournament' title as it is now.
Head Coach Dana Duckworth Said
"It is always an honor to have the No. 1 team in the country come into your arena, because it only gets you that much more fired up. It is Senior Night and Alonza (Klopfer) and Lexi (Graber) have been vocal leaders, leaders by example and have put their whole heart into everything that they do to lead our team. I feel so blessed to be a part of the journey with them, and that we get to honor their beautiful careers. Last week was a great step for us to replace an away score with a bigger away score. Overall, the ladies did a great job with hitting for the most part, but still understanding that we are still not at our peak. That is an exciting place to be as we go into our final meet of the regular season."
