
Alabama Makes Move up Leaderboard in Round Two of the Old Waverly Collegiate

The Crimson Tide carded an 8-under par 280 during Saturday’s second round of play
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 24 Alabama men's golf team made the second-biggest move up the leaderboard during Saturday's second round of play at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, ending the day with a score of 8-under par 280. The Crimson Tide vaulted four spots into a 10th-place tie entering Sunday's final round with a 36-hole team score of 1-over par 577 (297-280).
Ninth-ranked Texas A&M (559) holds the clubhouse lead by one stroke over No. 13 Georgia (560) going into the final 18 holes. Arkansas (562), ranked No. 22 nationally, made the biggest jump by moving up seven spots into third overall after shooting a 19-under par 269 Saturday as a team, followed by No. 21 Tennessee (563), No. 10 Vanderbilt (566) and No. 25 LSU (566) round out the top five teams, respectively.
Alabama Highlights
- Three of the five golfers in the UA lineup combined to shoot 9-under in Canon Claycomb (-4), JP Cave (-3) and Thomas Ponder (-2)
- Claycomb led the charge with five birdies and just one bogey as he tied his season-low 18-hole score of 68 and will enter the final round in a tie for 39th with a 2-over 144 (76-68)
- Cave (73-69), who also matched his season-low round on Saturday, and Ponder (72-70) are tied for 18th overall with both carding a 36-hole score of 2-under par 142
The Rest Of The Lineup
- Wilson Furr is in a tie for 67th with a 149 (76-73) par 72, 7,088-yard Old Waverly Golf Course
- Jack Goldasich rounds out the starting lineup in 77th with a 152 (79-73)
- Simms Abney is competing as an individual and owns a score of 159 (77-81) after two rounds of play

- For the fourth time across its last five rounds played, Alabama has scored under par as a team dating back to the Tiger Invitational
