The Crimson Tide fell behind 3-1 before tying the match at 3-3 before losing a three-set match at No. 2 singles
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After rallying to beat No. 35 Middle Tennessee State, 4-3, on Friday night, the No. 31 ranked Alabama men's tennis team was on the verge of another come-from-behind win against No. 32 Memphis Sunday afternoon, before falling, 4-3.
After taking the doubles point, Memphis went on to build a 3-1 lead before the Crimson Tide tied it 3-3 with singles wins from Jeremy Gschwendtner at No. 6, Riccardo Roberto at No. 5 and Gabriel Diaz Freire at No. 4. The match came down to a tight three-set match at No. 2 singles, with the Tide coming up just short.
Head Coach George Husack Said
"Like Friday, we dug a hole for ourselves by not executing the fundamentals in doubles. Additionally, like Friday, we rolled up our sleeves and fought back in singles, giving ourselves a chance to win. I commend the effort of the players, though when your back is up against the wall there is such little margin for error. We must do a better job of executing the basics early in a match so we don't get stung coming down the home stretch. We will address this in practice this week and have the opportunity to respond again next weekend."
