
Alabama in Second Overall after 36 Holes Played at the Tiger Invitational

Wilson Furr in second place through two rounds of play
OPELIKA, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team carded team rounds of 12-under par 276 in round one and 5-under 283 in the afternoon to end day one of the Tiger Invitational in second overall with a 36-hole total of 17-under par 559.
UA was led by captain Wilson Furr, who caught fire with birdies in his first five holes and seven of the opening 10 holes of round one. The Jackson, Miss., native finished morning with 10 birdies and two bogeys to end with an 8-under par 64. He followed that with a 2-under 70 and is in second overall at 10-under par 134, one stroke back of clubhouse leader Davis Thompson of Georgia.
The Crimson Tide will enter Tuesday's final 18 holes three strokes back of tournament host No. 16 Auburn (556). Georgia, ranked No. 13, is in third overall at 562, followed by No. 14 Vanderbilt (566) and No. 20 Tennessee (566) to round out the top five.
Highlights
- Furr was not the only Crimson Tide golfer to shine on day one as Canon Claycomb will enter the third round in a tie for 12th overall with a 4-under 140 (71-69)
- Thomas Ponder also played well as he ended the day at 2-under par 142 (73-69)
- Ponder collected his sixth round in the 60s this season while it was the fourth for Claycomb
Other Alabama Golfers
- JP Cave is tied for 40th with a 146 (71-75) and Jack Goldasich is tied for 50th at 147 (70-77)
- Tyler Lipscomb, who is competing as an individual, is in a tie for 83rd with a 154 (78-76) on the par 72, 7,289-yard Grand National on the Lake Course
Fun Fact
- Furr's round of 64 was the lowest on the day by any golfer in the field and matched the second-lowest score of his Alabama career
