The Crimson Tide took a win at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles against the Vols
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 28 Alabama men's tennis team fell to No. 4 Tennessee by a score 6-1 at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sunday afternoon.
Patrick Kaukovalta picked up a win at No. 3, while Gabriel Diaz Freire and Zhe Zhou won at No. 2 doubles. Edson Ortiz and Alexey Nesterov pushed the Vols to an extended tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles before falling 7-6(9). That tiebreaker was the first of four that went to seven games, including three that went to a tiebreaker.
Alabama Head Coach George Husack Said
"Opportunities come and go. They are created by a simple plan of making our opponents uncomfortable with a purpose driven plan time and time again. If we don't execute and finish we must continue to push the envelope. For example, when Alabama basketball doesn't make 3-pointers they don't stop shooting, driving or playing defense. They are driven by the opportunity to carry out their plan. That's how our team has been successful and we must do a better job of being relentless with our pursuit. That starts in practice and we all are responsible - coaches and players. We will get after it this week so that we are even more prepared to create and finish next weekend."
