
Alabama Earns No. 2 Seed in 2021 NCAA Tournament and Will Square off against Iona Saturday

The Crimson Tide, the 2021 SEC regular-season and tournament champions, makes its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Alabama men's basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and will face No. 15 seed Iona Saturday, March 20, in Indianapolis, Ind. The exact time and location will be announced at a later date.
The Crimson Tide (23-6) earned the No. 2 seed in the East Region following its first SEC Tournament title since 1991, which put an exclamation point UA's historic season. The No. 2 seed matches the highest NCAA Tournament seed in program history, with the 2002 team also earning the No. 2 seed.
This season marks Alabama's 21st NCAA Tournament appearance in program history The Tide owns a 19-20 (.487) record in NCAA tourney play, with the 2004 team advancing the farthest in program history, reaching the Elite 8.
NCAA Tournament Notes
- The tournament appearance is the Tide's 21st in program history, and first since 2018
- The winner of the Alabama vs. Iona game will advance to face the winner of the matchup between No. 7 UConn and No. 10 Maryland on Monday, 22
- This is Nate Oats' fourth NCAA Tournament appearance as a head coach, with the others coming in 2016, 2018 and 2019
- Iona owns a record of 12-5 overall and 6-3 in MAAC action, reaching the NCAA Tournament by winning the conference tournament title over Fairfield (60-51)
