The Crimson Tide won the doubles point and picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 48 Alabama women's tennis dropped a heartbreaker to No. 30 Ole Miss, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Crimson Tide picked up the doubles point when Sydney Riley and Anne Marie Hiser won at No. 2 and Alba Cortina Pou and Anna Parkhomenko won at No. 3.
Loudmilla Bencheikh made her Alabama debut at No. 1 singles, picking up a 6-3, 6-1 win, while fellow freshman Anne Marie Hiser came back to win at No. 5 by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Head Coach Jenny Mainz Said
"Today was an incredible collegiate tennis match. Both teams deserved to win. Ole Miss had a great response after dropping the doubles point, winning five first sets in singles. It was a back-and-forth match from the very beginning that could have gone either way. The coaching staff believes in this team and we believe we will make the breakthrough. We battled hard today and we improved as a team. Our doubles is getting better with each match. Our freshmen played gutsy today from Loudmilla at No. 1, Anna at No. 3 and Anne Marie finishing a tough three setter at #5. We have lots of positives to take away from today's match. We need all eight players to show up ready to fight, kick, dig, scrap and battle on Saturday."
