
Bobby Colantonio Jr. Scores for Alabama Men’s Track and Field on Day One of the NCAA Indoor Championships

The junior posted a toss of 73-0.75 on his final effort to take fifth place in the weight throw and put the Crimson Tide on the board
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Alabama thrower Bobby Colantonio Jr. put the Alabama men on the board on day one of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., this week.
Colantonio posted a throw of 73-0¾ (22.27m) on his final toss to take fifth place despite battling an inner ear infection that affected his balance. Overall, Colantonio posted three throws over 70 feet.
Earlier in the day, Jake Spotswood got the Crimson Tide started with first four events of the heptathlon. He finished day one in 10th place with 3,116 points with the final three events coming on Friday staring at 10 a.m.
The Alabama men are currently in fifth place with four points.

Bobby and Jake got us off to a solid start on day one. I'm especially proud of the way Bobby powered through despite dealing with an ear infection throughout the day. He never gave up and gave us our first points of the weekend. Tomorrow is a big day for us, not only in terms of team points, but in opportunities to advance to Saturday finals."
NCAA Indoor Championships Day Two
- The UA women start the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday at 11 a.m. with Cherisse Murray in the shot put
- Tamara Clark, one of seven women at this year's championships to qualify in both the 60-meters and 200-meters, will run the semi-finals of both on Friday
- The Tide's distance medley relay (DMR) close the second night of competition at 8:45 p.m. CT
- The women's DMR won the SEC Championships with a meet and Alabama record
- The Crimson Tide men return to action in six different events on Friday, including Spotswood closing out the heptathlon
- Isaac Odugbesan gets the Tide men's field events started on Friday with the shot put at 11 a.m. CT
- Eliud Kipsang gets the Tide's day started on the track with the semifinals of the mile staring at 2 p.m. CT
- Champion Allison and Leander Forbes also run the semifinals of the 400-meters on Friday
- Alabama's men close day two with the DMR relay
