FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jake Spotswood broke the school heptathlon record for the third time this season to score for the Crimson Tide on day two of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., this week.
Spotswood boosted the school mark to 5,715 points to take seventh place. He was in 10th place after the first day, which included the first four events. Taking top honors in the pole vault helped boost him into a scoring position.
Alabama also advanced to four finals on Saturday, the championships' last day, including Eliud Kipsang (mile) and Champion Allison (400m) on the men's side of the meet and Tamara Clark (60m and 200m) on the women's side. The men will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay, while Christan Edwards has the triple jump.
The Alabama men are currently in 16th place with six points with seven of 17 events scored.
Head Coach Dan Water Said
"We had some great events and we had some that didn't go our way, but the most important thing for tomorrow is to maximize the opportunities we have and keep fighting through to the end. We're super proud of the job that Jake did today, it's always a big deal when you set a school record. Tamara, Eliud and Champ were great in their semis and we're looking forward to seeing Christian and the men's 4x400 in action."
