Sydney Riley tied the match at 1-1 after the Gators took the doubles point
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis fell to No. 23 Florida, 4-1, in the Southeastern Conference opener for both squads Friday afternoon at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. Alabama is now 9-2 on the season, while the Gators go to 3-3.
The Crimson Tide duo of Anna Parkhomenko and Anne Marie Hiser won at No. 3 doubles, but the Gators snagged the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Sydney Riley then tied the match up with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 to make it 1-1. The Gators closed out the match with wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
Head Coach Jenny Mainz Said
"We played hard today and fought for every point. After losing the doubles point we talked about getting into singles early with good discipline and good intensity. We took three first sets in singles and had some chances in the other three. The match was a lot closer than the score reflected. Credit to Florida for playing the big points well. After the match we talked about being resilient and focusing on the opportunities in front of us. This team has made encouraging progress and will continue to work forward. We have lots of great opportunities ahead."
