
Alabama Soccer Kicks Off the Spring Slate with a 2-0 Shutout Over Columbus State

The Crimson Tide scored a pair of goals in the second half of Friday’s match
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team continued the 2020-21 season with a 2-0 shutout over Columbus State at the Alabama Soccer Complex Friday afternoon.
The first half was a defensive battle between the two squads, as the there was only three shots fired in 45 minutes of action (CSU 2, UA 1). Midfielder Macy Clem took advantage of a corner kick by Kat Rogers to put Alabama up on the scoreboard in the 64th minute. The Crimson Tide found the back of the net less than 10 minutes later through a penalty kick opportunity thanks to midfielder Felicia Knox.
Behind the Win
- Goalkeeper McKinley Crone earned her second shutout of the season, silencing the Cougars to their first loss of the season.
- With the win, Crone recorded three saves in 90 minutes.
- Clem led the offensive attack with three shots and one goal.
- Six members of the Tide registered one shot a piece: Tanna Sachez-Carreto, Sasha Pickard, Knox, Rogers, Kate Henderson, Taylor Carter.
- The Crimson Tide's leading scorer, Riley Mattingly, suffered an injury in the first half but Alabama kept the advantage in shots (9-4).
- Eight Alabama players recorded 90 minutes in Friday's match: Clem, Sanchez-Carreto, Bella Scaturro, Pickard, Gessica Skorka, Knox, Crone, Rogers.
