
Alabama’s Jaden Shackelford and JD Davison Sweep SEC Weekly Awards

Shackelford earns the third conference weekly honor of his career, while Davison notches his first
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following Alabama's upset win over No. 3/3 Gonzaga this past Saturday in the Battle in Seattle, Crimson Tide swept the league's weekly awards as Jaden Shackelford was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week and JD Davison earned the league's Freshman of the Week, which were both announced by the conference office Monday.
In addition to his conference award, Shackelford was also named the NCAA.com March Madness National Player of the Week.
It marks just the second time in program history that the Crimson Tide has swept the league's weekly honors dating back to the 1990-91 season when the SEC began what was then called the Rookie of the Week award. The only other occurrence came during the week of Feb. 17, 2020 when Kira Lewis Jr. (player of the week) and Shackelford (freshman of the week) earned the recognition.
Jaden Shackelford
- Earns his third career weekly honor (two player of the week awards and one freshman of the week)
- Jaden Shackelford had a career night in leading the Crimson Tide to an upset win over No. 3/3 Gonzaga in the Battle in Seattle
- Shackelford shined in the victory as he matched his career high with 28 points to go along with a team-leading nine rebounds in the 91-82 victory in front of a sellout crowd of more than 18,000 fans at Climate Pledge Arena
- The Hesperia, Calif., native connected on 10-of-16 shots from the field and 6-of-8 from beyond the arc
- Shackelford lit the scoreboard up in the first half, hitting all six of his threes to help stake the Tide to a 15-point halftime lead (51-36) – Gonzaga's largest halftime deficit since the Zags trailed 40-23 to Memphis on Feb. 7, 2009
JD Davison
- Davison earns his first-ever weekly award has he continued his hot play as of late against the Zags, helping lift the Crimson Tide to the upset victory
- Davison was impressive throughout, going for a season-best 20 points
- Added five rebounds and three assists in the win
- The Letohatchee, Ala., native also set season-best marks in field goals made and attempted (6-of-10) and threes made and attempted (4-of-6)
