
Alabama Swimming and Diving Returns to Action Friday with SEC Opener vs LSU

The diving portion of the meet begins at noon, while the swimming events get underway at 1 p.m.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama swimming and diving team opens the Southeastern Conference portion of its schedule Friday against the LSU Tigers at home in the Alabama Aquatic Center. Diving begins at 12 p.m., while the swimming events start at 1 p.m.
The Crimson Tide men and women are both 2-0-0 coming into the meet, while the Tigers men and women are both 4-0-0. This is the SEC opener for both teams. The two teams last met during the regular season in November 2020 in Baton Rouge, La., with the Tide getting the sweep, beating the LSU men 194-84 and the women 183-117.

"This is our third meet of the season and first against SEC competition which is exciting for us. The SEC is arguably the best swimming and diving conference in the nation and you have to be ready to compete at a high level against anyone in our league. We will need to race better than we have up to this point and continue growing as a team against a strong LSU squad."

Premeet Tailgate
- University Programs is hosting a tailgate outside the Alabama Aquatic Center from 11am-1pm
- There will be a DJ, a sign making station, yard games, and free food for students
- Fans can receive double points toward the Crimson Tide Rewards prograam
- There will be an Enter-To-Win Giveaway sign-up at the marketing table
Nationally Ranked in the Top-25
- Alabama has five swims ranked in the top-25 nationally following early season meets
- Matt Menke is 14th in the men's 50 backstroke after going 21.91 against Birmingham Southern
- Menke's 47.79 against Delta State in the men's 100 backstroke ranks 21st nationally
- Derek Maas is also ranked in the men's 100 backstroke, going 47.83 against Delta State to stand 23rd nationally
- Morgan Scott is 22nd in the women's 50 backstroke, with a 25.15 from the Tide's September meet against Delta State
- Kalia Antoniou is 24th in the women's 50 freestyle with a 22.77 against BSC
Last Time Out
- The Crimson Tide opened its road slate by beating Birmingham Southern at the Birmingham CrossPlex on October 22
- The Crimson Tide men won 194-91, while the women came out on top 201-85
- In addition to being its first road meet of the season, the contest also served as the Tide's Power of Pink meet, with the team wearing pink caps in support of Alabama Athletics' breast cancer awareness initiative
- Cora Dupre led the women's team, winning the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley
- Derek Maas and Kaique Alves paced the men with two individual wins each
- Maas finished first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, while Alves won the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle
