
Alabama Swimming and Diving Breaks More School Records on Day Two of Tennessee Invitational

Avery Wiseman broke the school women’s 100 breaststroke record twice on the day, while Derek Maas broke the men’s 100 breaststroke standard in the finals, giving him two new UA marks in as many days.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama Swimming and Diving kept its record-breaking ways going on day two of the Tennessee Invitational at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn., Friday.
Rookie Avery Wiseman broke the school 100 breaststroke record twice, becoming the first UA woman under 58 seconds in prelims with a 57.87 before bettering that mark in finals with a 57.79 on the way to a second-place finish.
One event later, Derek Maas broke his second school mark in as many days, downing the 100 breaststroke record with a 51.38. On Thursday, he bettered the 200 individual medley mark by going 1:43.12. Maas won both events.
In addition to its new school standards in the breaststroke events, Alabama won nine events on the meet's second day.
More Day Two Highlights
- Mohamed Farouk got the day-two winning started for the Tide, by getting the men's 1-meter springboard victory with 376.50 points, while Kevin Li was second (351.65)
- Kaique Alves won the men's 200 freestyle with a blistering 1:33.56 to leap to third all-time at UA
- Rhyan White won the women's 100 backstroke with a pool-record time of 50.31, bettering her own mark from a year ago
- Matt Menke, Derek Maas, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida and Jonathan Berneburg won the men's 200 medley relay by more than a second with a time of 1:23.38
- Menke won the men's 100 backstroke in a time of 45.81, while Eric Stelmar was third at 46.87
- Nicholas Perera won the 400 individual medley after clocking a 3:46.24
- Cora Dupre, Morgan Scott, Ashley Voelkerding and Kalia Antoniou closed the night for the Tide women by winning the 800 freestyle relay with a 7:04.06, nearly three seconds ahead of the field
- Dupre's leadoff leg on the Tide's 800 freestyle relay went for a 1:43.93, ranking her second all-time at UA in the 200 freestyle
- Alves, Maas, Kacper Piotrowski and Cam Auerbach finished out the men's night with a three-second win in the 800 freestyle relay after combining to post an 8:22.54
- White, Avery Wiseman, Scott and Dupre went 1:35.01 to take second in the women's 200 medley relay
- Scott was second in the women's 200 freestyle, with a 1:45.95
- Bondra de Almeida was second in the men's 100 butterfly with a 46.49, moving him up to seventh all-time at Alabama, while Mateo Miceli was third with a 46.53, which ranks him ninth all-time for the Tide
- Halia Bower took third off the women's 3-meter springboard with a score of 318.7
Tennessee Invitational Schedule (All Times Central)
- Saturday's prelims start at 9 a.m. with the timed finals of the 1,650 freestyle starting at 11 a.m. and diving prelims starting at 12:30 p.m.
- Saturday's finals start at 3:30 p.m.
- Saturday's events include the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle, platform diving, and 400 freestyle relay
