Tide Tipoff Set for October 22
We are excited to welcome in the 2021-22 basketball season with Tide Tipoff, which will take place Friday, October 22. This year's event is being held in Foster Auditorium with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Seating is first come, first served. More details to be announced soon!
Addressing Concessions at Bryant-Denny Stadium
A number of you have reached out voicing concerns over the issues with concession stand wait times and availability on game days. This is unacceptable, and we're working diligently to get to where we are serving all of you the way we would like to be. Similar to our staffing issues at the gates, an average of 40 percent of those committed to work concessions on game days end up not showing up, leaving us shorthanded. That is by no means an excuse but something we are working to overcome and remedy as we continue on with the season. We appreciate your feedback and will keep this a priority.
October Off to Solid Start
Several of our teams and individuals collected wins over the weekend, beginning with defending NCAA cross country champion Mercy Chelangat capturing the Joe Piane Invitational crown on Friday morning. Men's tennis then added five of its 12 overall match victories at the Bulldog Invitational in Starkville before soccer capped off the day with a 1-0 shutout over 24th-ranked LSU in front of an incredible crowd. Rowing got its season started Saturday in Oklahoma City, while football took care of business in its SEC home opener against No. 12 Ole Miss. Look forward to seeing many more Ws for the Crimson Tide as the season continues on!
Gymnastics Receives Championship Rings
We had the opportunity to celebrate the 2021 SEC gymnastics champions during halftime of the Alabama-Ole Miss football game. Head coach Dana Duckworth and her team won the program's 10th SEC title last spring and received their championship rings in front of a crowd of over 100,000 on Saturday. It was a great afternoon for the football team and for our gymnastics champions.
Women's Golf Posts Its Lowest Team Score since 2018
Our women's golf team had a runner-up finish last week at the Mason Rudolph Championship, posting a 12-under-par 852 tournament total. Paced by top-10 individual finishes from Benedetta Moresco and Polly Mack, the team's tournament total was its lowest of the regular season since 2018. Well done! Â
Swimming and Diving Sweeps Season Opener
Congrats to head coach Margo Geer and our men's and women's swimming and diving teams for getting the 2021-22 season off to a great start by sweeping Delta State during the last weekend of September. Not only did the Tide win all 32 events on the day, but several of the performances stand as No. 1 nationally in the early season rankings. After opening at home, we return to action on Oct. 22 in Birmingham against Birmingham Southern.
Celebrating Crimson Tide Success
In addition to honoring the 2021 SEC gymnastics champions last Saturday, we also had the chance to honor a number of the nation's top scholar-athletes during the Alabama-Southern Miss game a few weeks back. A total of 18 Crimson Tide student-athletes from six different sports earned CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades during the 2020-21 season. With last year's total, The University of Alabama is the only school to earn double-digit honors the last eight years in a row. We also led the nation last year with 13 first-team honorees, four more than second-place Stanford. One of those honorees, Mercy Chelangat, was also recognized as the 2021 Honda Award winner for cross county prior to the USM game, which goes to the nation's top cross country runner. Honoring these tremendous student-athletes in this way is always an incredible experience for all involved.
Schedules, Schedules, Schedules
Lots of schedule announcements made over the last couple weeks with 2021-22 basketball TV selections, 2022 SEC baseball and softball matchups and 2022 football schedules released. Check out the links below for details!
University Spotlight
The annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Drive kicked off last week and will run for the next seven weeks leading up to the Iron Bowl. More than 1,000 donation barrels have been placed around campus and throughout Tuscaloosa, so let's help to reach this year's goal of 300,000 pounds! Since its inception in 1994, Alabama and Auburn have combined to donate over seven million pounds of food for Alabamians in need.

We're headed west for this week's #RollTideFriday photo features. First, thanks to Gina Rae for sending in a pic of her Alabama flag flying proudly in Arizona. Secondly, we have Reid Wurtele checking in from Alaska.
