Five former Crimson Tide players begin NBA training camp in preparation for the 2021-22 season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As the 2021-22 NBA regular season approaches, RollTide.com will feature highlights from our players in the NBA, as well as profile other alums who are thriving overseas.
In the first edition of AlabamaMBB Pro Spotlight features a look at the five former players who are participating in NBA Training Camp, which began Sept. 28.
Joshua Primo (first round pick, San Antonio Spurs) and Herbert Jones (second round pick, New Orleans Pelicans) will begin their first fall camp and join veterans JaMychal Green (8th season, Denver Nuggets), Collin Sexton (3rd season, Cleveland Cavaliers and Kira Lewis Jr. (2nd season, New Orleans Pelicans) as Alabama representatives in the NBA.
JaMychal Green, Denver Nuggets
- The Tide's most tenured player in the NBA as he enters his 8th season in the league, playing with four different teams (San Antonio, Memphis, LA Clippers and Denver)
- Re-signed with the Denver Nuggets in August 2021 for a 2-year, $17 million deal
- Appeared in 58 games (five starts) for the Nuggets last season, averaging 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from three in 19.3 minutes. He also contributed in 10 of their playoff games, with 5.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 19.0 minutes of the bench
- Has played in 420 career games making 157 starts
Herbert Jones, New Orleans Pelicans
- Drafted with the fourth pick in the second round (No. 35 overall) by the New Orleans Pelicans, Herbert Jones joins former teammate Kira Lewis Jr. this season
- Signed the second largest contract ever by a NBA Draft second round pick
- Shined in NBA Summer League where he boasted the ninth-best defensive rating among all players while also averaging 7.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game

- New Orleans fans got a sneak peek at what the duo of Jones and Lewis can bring to the table in summer league action
Kira Lewis Jr., New Orleans Pelicans
- A second-year player who was an NBA Draft Lottery Pick (No. 13 overall) in 2020
- Played in 54 games as a rookie averaging 6.4 points, 2.3 assists, 1.3 rebounds off the bench
- Shined in the NBA Summer League, helping the Pelicans to a perfect 5-0 record
- Was the team's starting point guard across the five games played over the summer and averaged 10.8 points, 5.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 26.2 minutes a contest
- One of three Crimson Tide guards selected in the NBA Draft Lottery over the last four years (Collin Sexton No. 8 overall in 2018, Joshua Primo No. 12 overall in 2021)
- Purchased a new house for his parents in his hometown of Hazel Green, Ala., this September

- No. 12 overall selection in 2021 NBA Draft
- Gave the Tide back-to-back NBA Draft Lottery picks for the first time in program history (Kira Lewis Jr. No. 13 overall in 2020)
- Averaged 14.3 points, 2.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks with his 25.2 minutes over 4 games in NBA Summer League play

Collin Sexton, Cleveland Cavaliers
- Collin Sexton begins year four with the Cleveland Cavaliers and returns as one of the team's top players entering the season
- The former Crimson Tide standout from the 2017-18 campaign is looking to make the Cavaliers a threat in the East as the conference's 9th-best scorer at 24.5 points per game a season ago
- In his third season, he also managed career bests in field goal shooting percentage (47.5%) and assists (4.4 apg), steals (1.03 spg) and minutes (35.5 mpg).
- He showed off his 'Young Bull' mentality putting up a career-high 42 points in a victory against the Brooklyn Nets
- This year, Collin Sexton is looking to grow as a leader in rapidly-developing core nucleus of young and talented players
Other Crimson Tide Pros
- Donta Hall has made the move to the Euroleague after brief stints with the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic along with a few years in the G-League
- Hall will sign with AS Monaco on a one-year deal and he's looking forward to the competition he'll see in Europe.
- Retin Obasohan signed in July with Hapoel Jerusalem
- Received MVP consideration for Nymburk in the Basketball Champions League during the 2020-21 season, averaging 13.9 points, 5.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game
- John Petty Jr. is in training camp with the Pelicans but expected to begin the season in the G-League with the Birmingham Squadron
- Petty joined the Detroit Pistons roster in the NBA Summer League, however, a thumb injury prevented him from suiting up in Las Vegas
- After four great years with the Tide, Alex Reese taking his sweet-shooting stroke to Hungary, joining the Hubner Blue Sharks, who are the defending champions in the Hungarian B-Division
- After a successful last few years on the court, including a standout season with the New Zealand Breakers last spring, Levi Randolph returns to the EuroLeague after he signed with Oostende in the Belgian Championship League
- Averaged 14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest a year ago
- It marks his fourth BCL team following SIG Strasbourg, Sassari, and Avellino
- Also played in G-League and made a few appearances in the NBA
