Crimson Tide Heads to Carolina Challenge

Competition begins at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday inside the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track & field hits the road for Columbia for the first of two trips to South Carolina this indoor season, competing in the Carolina Challenge Saturday inside the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.
The one-day meet will see the Crimson Tide compete against nine programs, with five hailing from the Southeastern Conference. Alabama will face league foes Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State and South Carolina, as well as non-conference opponents Campbell, Florida Atlantic, North Carolina A&T and Southern Wesleyan.
Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. CT with the men's weight throw as well as the women's shot put and pole vault. The last events of the day are the men's and women's 4x400m relays, with the women's race starting at 3:55 p.m. CT.
Last Time Out
- Alabama heads to its second meet of the indoor season having collected nine individual wins at the Commodore Indoor last weekend
- Ryan Lipe picked up Alabama's first win of the 2021 indoor season in the men's pole vault
- Day one in Nashville ended with Kieran McKeag capturing his first victory in the Alabama uniform in the men's weight throw
- With a leap of 49'3.50" (15.02m), Christian Edwards claimed first in the men's triple jump
- Tamara Clark took home first with a best time of 7.26 in the women's 60m
- Amaris Tyynismaa led the Tide in the women's one mile with a winning time of 4:44.58
- For the men's 400m, Jonathan Martin (1st, 48.76) won
- Eliud Kipsang flew through the pack in the men's 3000m to place first with a time of 8:01.96
- The women's (3:39.97) and men's (3:09.77) 4x400m relay teams finished first
During the 2021 track season there will be no fans permitted at South Carolina Track and Field events. In accordance with SEC policy, no unattached athletes will participate at any meets throughout the season. Additionally, athletes, coaches, staff and officials will adhere to social distancing and masking measures.
