TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team closed the Bama Spring Shootout held in the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility this weekend, with six wins, boosting its three-day victory total to 19.
After playing two rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles during the tourney's first two days, Sunday saw two rounds of singles, with Alabama's Edson Ortiz, Gabriel Diaz Freire, Vincent Rettke, Avi Shugar, Marcelo Sepulveda Garza and Zhe Zhou notching wins.
Diaz Freire won the Jeff Robinson Singles Division of the tourney after going a perfect 3-0 in singles over the weekend.
There was a total of 18 tiebreak sets over the three days, an indication of how close most of the matches were.
HEAD COACH GEORGE HUSACK SAID
"It was an extremely competitive weekend for our team. I am proud of the guys' effort, especially their response from Saturday to Sunday, giving us a quality finish. Like cooking a good meal, recipes can be tweaked a little here and there to make something taste better with each serving. As a team, we are where we should be. The work we put into our practices moving forward will serve as key ingredients for our continued development and progress in a demanding and opportunistic season ahead."
