Former Alabama players shine in the third week of the 2020 NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The third week of the 2020-21 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the highlights from week three by former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Former Heisman trophy winner Derrick Henry had a huge day on the ground for the Tennessee Titans. The tailback carried the ball 26 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns while adding two catches for 11 yards through the air. Henry currently leads the NFL in total rushing yards and has helped the Titans begin the season with a perfect 3-0 start.
Also exceling on offense were a trio of former Alabama wide receivers. First was Amari Cooper, who caught nine passes for 86 yards for the Dallas Cowboys. He currently ranks third in the NFL in total receptions. Falcons wideout Calvin Ridley continued his hot start to the season, recording a team-high five receptions for 110 yards in Atlanta's matchup with the Chicago Bears. Through three weeks, Ridley ranks second in the league for receiving yards. Fellow South Florida native Jerry Jeudy also posted a solid effort this week for the Denver Broncos. The rookie hauled in five passes for 55 yards in the Broncos pairing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On the defensive side of the ball, Alabama defensive backs contributed strong individual outings during week three. One of the week's most impressive performances came from rookie Trevon Diggs, who led the Dallas Cowboys in tackles with nine. Diggs also added a pass breakup and a forced fumble to his stat sheet. Levi Wallace also excelled on Sunday. The Bills corner recorded nine tackles, a pass breakup and an interception in Buffalo's win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Rounding out the defensive side in week three was linebacker Rashaan Evans and lineman Jonathan Allen. Evans recorded seven total tackles and a fumble recovery for the Titans. Allen led the way for Washington with nine total tackles, including a tackle for loss, a sack and a quarterback hurry against the Browns.
