Football Home Opener on Saturday
After kicking off the football season with a victory at Missouri, we are thrilled to be back as we gear up for the 2020 home opener this weekend. I know I probably shouldn't jinx the weather, but the forecast is looking absolutely beautiful for a football Saturday!
For those with tickets, please be sure to take a look at our New in 2020 page to familiarize yourself with changes to the game day experience this season including mobile ticketing and parking, COVID-19 related self-assessment, personal protective equipment (as demonstrated by Big Al below!), gate number changes and concession operations.

Also, as we continue to comply with important health and safety protocols, we encourage fans without tickets to avoid the stadium area. Tailgating and/or gatherings in parking lots or green space will not be permitted. If you're watching from home, keep these plays in mind.
We look forward to a time when we can welcome all fans back to the Capstone to enjoy athletic events in person. In the meantime, we hope all game day attendees commit to a shared responsibility for the health and safety of our campus and community by following our requirements to wear face coverings and practice physical distancing at all times.
Fans with pre-existing health conditions or those at greater risk should consider not attending any on-campus sporting events for the time being. Of course, anyone who is experiencing COVID symptoms, who may have been exposed to someone who is COVID positive, or has been recommended by a healthcare provider to quarantine or isolate should not attend.
Stay safe Tide fans; thank you for your commitment, patience and resiliency. We can't wait to see you again soon.
Cross Country and Soccer Get Alabama Athletics' Fall Started
While SEC football got underway last Saturday, the Crimson Tide got things rolling the weekend before with cross country opening things up on the road at the Commodore Classic where freshman Jami Reed won the women's race, leading us to a second-place team finish, while the men took fourth. Later that day, soccer opened its season with Alabama Athletics' first on-campus event in sixth months with a 3-1 win over Tennessee, led by a pair of goals by Riley Mattingly. For their outstanding starts, Jami was named the SEC Women's Runner of the Week and Riley was named to TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week.
Tennis and Golf to Begin Fall Slate
As we head into the month of October, both our tennis and golf teams will begin the fall portion of their competitive seasons. Men's tennis heads to Auburn for a five-team event joining Florida, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and the host Tigers, while both golf teams are slated for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas October 5-7. Women's tennis hosts its first of two home tournaments of the season October 9-11, welcoming Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and Mississippi State to Tuscaloosa.
Big September for Alexa Guarachi
Speaking of tennis, former Tide standout Alexa Guarachi has enjoyed an outstanding September on the pro circuit. Alexa, who played in the main doubles draw of the US Open earlier in the summer, went on to win the Istanbul Open and reach the championship final of the Internationaux de Strasbourg with doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk. It was the second WTA doubles championship of Alexa's pro career. Best of luck to Alexa this week as she begins play at the French Open.
Crimson Tide Golfers Make Preseason Watch Lists
Four Crimson Tide golfers added their names to preseason watch lists for two of collegiate golf's most prestigious honors. Senior Kenzie Wright and freshman Michaela Morard have been named to the ANNIKA Award watch list, while senior Wilson Furr and sophomore Canon Claycomb are on the Fred Haskins Award list. Created in 2014, the ANNIKA Award is annually given to the top female U.S. collegiate golfer with the winner selected via a vote by players, coaches and members of the golf media. Going back to 1971, the Haskins Award is the oldest college golf accolade and is the only award that is voted on by players, coaches, sports information directors and select golf media.
Be The Change Unity Shirts
While all of our teams will wear the SEC's "Together It Just Means More" warm-up shirts for their first competitions, we have also created our own "Be The Change" shirts that will be worn for the duration of the season. Soccer debuted the shirts last Friday at Mississippi State, and they looked outstanding!

University Spotlight
A job well-done by UA sophomore Kana Webb, who collected over $1,500 worth of supplies for individuals impacted by Hurricane Laura. Webb, who grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is continuing her relief efforts by partnering with United Way of West Alabama to raise money to aid in rebuilding. Great job, Kana!
