The defending SEC 1,650 freestyle champion earned a spot on the USA senior national team for the first time last fall
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alabama swimming and diving junior Kensey McMahon was named to the United States National Team for the second year in a row, USA Swimming announced this week.
McMahon, who won the SEC 1,650 freestyle title last spring, earned her spot on the USA Summer National Championships during the summer of 2019, when she took second in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a career-best 16:09.80, which ranked her in the top-16 in the world.
"Kensey just keeps getting better and better," UA head coach Coley Stickels said. "She had an amazing NCAA season as a sophomore and only the cancellation of this summer's long-course season could slow her down. Being a part of Team USA is a tremendous honor and it's something that Kensey has earned through hard work and dedication."
The Jacksonville, Fla., native earned All-America honors as both a freshman and sophomore with the Crimson Tide. She also ran away with the Southeastern Conference 1,650 freestyle title and was third in the 500 freestyle, both in school-record times before the season was cut short by Covid19.
A member of the USA National Junior Team from 2016-19, McMahon competed for Team USA at the 2016 and 2018 Open Water World Juniors Championship. A three-year USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, she was a two-time USA Junior National Champion prior to joining the Crimson Tide in the fall of 2018.
