The Crimson Tide men’s and women’s teams each had 11 swimmers and divers recognized, earning a combined 57 All-America honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. – A total of 22 Alabama swimmers and divers earned a combined 57 All-America honors, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced on Wednesday, including 11 men and 11 women.
It is the highest number of All-Americans for the UA men since 1990 and the most for the women since the 1985 season.
"We're really very proud of the work these men and women did this season and what they were able to achieve through the dedication and drive they displayed throughout year," UA head coach Coley Stickels said. "Under these unprecedented circumstances I'm very pleased that our coaches association found a way to recognize these men and women for the seasons they were having."
Junior Flora Molnar and sophomores Rhyan White and Morgan Scott led the women's team with five honors each. White was named an All-American in three individual events and as part of two relays, while Molnar and Scott each earned two individual and three relay accolades.
Seniors Alexis Preski (2) and Allie Surrency (1), junior Kaila Wong (2), sophomores Kalia Antoniou (4), Kensey McMahon (2), Morgan Liberto (1) and Julia Wolf (1) along with freshman Tanesha Lucoe (1) also earned All-America recognition on the women's side.
Molnar bumped her career total to eight while Scott is up to three. McMahon also has three career honors after earning first-team accolades in the 1,650 freestyle in 2019.
"Our women put together an amazing season and the success they had at the SEC Championships combined with having 11 All-Americans really speaks to the kind of NCAA championship run they were verge of having," Stickels said. "The same can be said for the men's team and the momentum these 11 men had heading into the national championships."
Senior Zane Waddell and junior Tyler Sesvold led the UA men with six All-America honors a piece, with both earning three individual and three relay spots.
Junior Sam DiSette (2), sophomores Jonathan Berneburg (3), Nico Hernandez-Tome (1), Kevin Li (2), Nicholas Perera (1) and Colton Stogner (1) along with freshmen Liam Bell (3), Derek Maas (2) and Matt Menke (1) also earned All-America accolades for the Tide men.
Waddell closed his Crimson Tide career with 21 total All-America certificates. Berneburg bumped his career total up to five while DiSette's tally stands at three.
All-America recognition is normally based on finishes at the NCAA Championships with A finalist earned first-team honors and B finalists named honorable mention. Due to the cancellation of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the CSCAA adjusted the selection criteria for the 2020 season with all relays achieving an A standard and individuals selected to the NCAA Championships being named All-America.
