Krieger was one of nine athletes chosen to vie for a National Team spot in the lightweight category
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Despite the cancellation of the 2020 international racing schedule due to the COVID-19 virus, senior Gabrielle Krieger was recognized by USRowing as one of the athletes selected to participate in the 2020 Under 23 Women's National Team Selection Camp, announced by USRowing earlier this week.
"Being invited to the selection camp is something I have wanted for a long time and although the circumstances are not ideal, maintaining everyone's safety is the top priority right now," Krieger said. "I am honored to have been selected and I am grateful for this opportunity no matter how it plays out."
The camp, which was originally scheduled for June 17-21 in Boston, Mass., allowed the athletes to vie for spots on the Under 23 National Team. The selected members would have competed in the 2020 Rowing Under 23 World Championships in August in Bled, Slovenia.
Krieger was one of only nine athletes nationally chosen to compete in the Women's Lightweight category. Each boat in the lightweight category must have an average weight of 130 pounds or under, unlike the Women's Open races which allows a wider range of weight.
