Alabama's Herbert Jones Named to SEC Men's Basketball Community Service Team

Jones named Alabama’s representative on this year’s Community Service Team, ranks among team leaders in hours served in the community
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior guard/forward Herbert Jones was named to the Southeastern Conference's Community Service Team for men's basketball, the league office announced on Thursday. Jones is Alabama's representative on the 14-man team that honors players' exemplary service to their communities.
Jones is not only a leader on the court and a team co-captain, but he has also taken on a leadership role in the community. The Greensboro, Ala., native topped all UA men's basketball players in community service hours this past year.
Among the items that Jones was involved with was the 'Stay In It To Win It' campaign when he spoke to students at Collins-Riverside Middle School on making good decisions outside of the classroom and the importance of creating a support network. Additional community service projects include visiting and interacting with patients in local area hospitals as well as participating in school fund-raising initiatives.
On the court, Jones is averaging 8.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game this season. A candidate for SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Jones tops Alabama in a number of categories including charges taken (22), deflections (82) and floor dives (30).
This marks the 22nd year for the SEC Community Service Team for men's basketball as well as for women's basketball. All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
