Crimson Tide Track and Field Win Four Titles at Day One of New Mexico Collegiate Classic

Competition resumes Saturday with a busy slate starting at 10:30 a.m. CT inside the Albuquerque Convention Center
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Alabama track & field won four titles to highlight day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday night inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Field Event Highlights
- Sophomore Bobby Colantonio Jr., who broke the school record in men's weight throw last week, picked up his third win of the season with a toss of 76-06.50 (23.33m).
- In women's weight throw, Alabama claimed two top-five finishes with junior Taylor Gorum (66-07.25/20.30m) finishing runner-up and freshman Samantha Kunza (57-08.50/17.59m) taking fifth.
- Senior Abigail Kwarteng finished second in women's high jump, just behind New Mexico's Jamari Drake, who won the event with the same clearance of 5-08.50 (1.74m). Drake cleared the height in just one less attempt to take first.
- Juniors Taylor Pickett (12-09.00/3.89m) and Abigail Dickinson (12-03.25/3.74m) went 4-5 in women's pole vault to cap off the first day of field events. Pickett's clearance of 12-09.00 (3.89m) marked a PR.
Track Event Highlights
- In the first track event of the weekend, freshman Matthew Weaver nearly out-kicked his opponent in the men's 200m but came up short and placed second with a time of 21.78.
- In the men's 400m, senior Stephan Holcombe clocked the fastest time of 47.79 and junior Joshua St. Clair (48.05) followed right behind for second. Freshman Luke Skinner (48.89) rounded out the top-five with a fifth place showing.
- Senior Natassha McDonald picked up a victory in the women's 400m in a time of 52.64, while graduate student Katie Funcheon (55.24) placed fifth in the field.
- The Crimson Tide found its stride in the women's 600m with sophomore Sydney Milani (1:31.09) taking second and senior Kristoni Barnes (1:32.37) finishing fourth.
- Junior Tamara Clark had a break out race in the women's 200m, where she picked up the win with a time of 22:81. Senior Takyera Roberson nabbed a time of 23.56 to place sixth overall.
