Alabama Swimming and Diving Posts Seven Top-10 Finishes on Day One of the Auburn Invitational

Sophomore John Shelstad led the way with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley
AUBURN, Ala. –  Alabama swimming and diving posted seven top-10 finishes on day one of the Auburn Invitational, led by sophomore John Shelstad, who took second in the 200 individual medley.
The Crimson Tide returns for day two of the three-day event on Saturday, with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals getting underway at 5:30 p.m.
Top-10 Finishes
- Shelstad posted a season-best 1:48.59 to take second in the men's 200 individual medley
- Sophomore Alec Dixon lowered his career-best time in the men's 50 freestyle twice on Friday, going a 20.57 in prelims before clocking a 20.49 in finals to take third place
- In addition to Shelstad, sophomore Cole Brown took fifth in the 200 individual medley with a season-best time of 1:50.94
- Freshman Sydney Carlson finished fifth in the women's 200 individual medley with a season-best 2:04.22
- Sophomore Emily Graham was eighth (23.39), junior Lydia Jackson was ninth (23.42) and sophomore Meg Peel was 10th (23.73) in the women's 50 freestyle
- It was a career-best time for both Graham and Peel
Next Meet
- The Crimson Tide will return to Auburn and the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in full force on Feb. 18, when the SEC Championships get underway
- The SEC Championships run from Feb. 18-22
- It will mark the first time since 2015 that the meet has been in Auburn
