
Alabama Women’s Tennis Alum Alexa Guarachi Nominated for WTA Doubles Team of the Year

The Crimson Tide legend and Desirae Krawczyk were among four tandems shortlisted for the honor
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis alum Alexa Guarachi and Desirae Krawczyk have been nominated for the WTA Doubles Team of the Year.
In addition to Guarachi and Krawczyk, runners-up at the 2020 French Open, the short list includes Australian and French Open champions Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos, US Open finalists Nicole Melichar and Xu Yi-Fan and Australian Open finalists Barbora Strycova and Hsieh Su-Wei.
Guarachi's and Krawczyk's run to their first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros Stadium, included upsetting the No. 1 doubles tandem in the world and the Open's No. 1 seed, Su-wei and Strýcová, in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, in the round of 16. Guarachi and Krawczyk, seeded No. 14 heading into the French Open, also knocked off No. 7-seeded Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara, 6-0, 6-4, to make it to the semifinals.
Earlier in the summer, Guarachi and Krawczyk won the Istanbul Open, finished runners-up at the Internationaux de Strasbourg and played in the main draws of the US Open and the Italian Open.
