
Women’s Basketball Back in Action Sunday at Mercer

Crimson Tide and Bears to tip at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN+
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide women's basketball team travels to Macon, Ga. this weekend for its second road contest of the 2020-21 season, facing the Mercer Bears on Sunday. The game is set for a 1 p.m. CT tip in Hawkins Arena.

The game will be streamed live via the ESPN+ app and can also be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network (WTBC-AM 1230 in Tuscaloosa) with Roger Hoover on the call.
OPENING TIP
- The Crimson Tide is 4-0 on the season after wins over Samford (83-68), Houston (88-66), USC Upstate (98-59) and at Oklahoma State (76-72).
- Alabama is looking for its first 5-0 start since 2016 when it won seven consecutive games to begin the season.
- UA leads the all-time series with Mercer, 4-1.
- The two played a home-and-home in the 1993 and 1994 seasons before meeting for the third time in 2014.
- In last year's matchup, the Tide won 111-56, scoring a program-record 41 points in the second quarter.
- It was head coach Kristy Curry's 100th win at Alabama.
- The Bears' lone victory in the series came on Dec. 14, 2014, in a low-scoring affair that went in favor of Mercer, 46-39.
LAST TIME OUT
- Alabama battled back from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit to remain undefeated on the season with a 76-72 victory at Oklahoma State in the 2020 SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
- Hannah Barber was clutch down the stretch scoring 14 points in the final eight minutes of the game, including all six of her attempts at the free throw line, which came at the 0:25, 0:19 and 0:04 marks. She finished with a career-high 22 points.
- Joining Barber in double figures was Jasmine Walker, who was one shy of her career best with 24 points, and Megan Abrams with 16. Abrams also had a career-high six assists, while Ariyah Copeland led the game in rebounds with 10.
- As a team, Alabama had another outstanding outing at the free throw line as the Tide hit 18 of its 19 attempts.
- The Tide outscored the Cowgirls 44-30 in the second half, including 23-11 in the fourth quarter.
- Through its four games, Alabama is outscoring opponents 107-57 in the fourth quarter, an average of 26.75-14.25 per game.
ABOUT MERCER
- In the Southern Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, Mercer was selected to win the league. In addition, Bears' senior Shannon Titus was named the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year.
- Mercer enters Sunday's game 3-2 on the season after defeating previously unbeaten UAB in overtime, 71-68, Thursday night in Birmingham.
- Amoria Neal-Tysor the Bears offensively, scoring a career-high 33 points, including 14-of-15 from the free throw line.
- Neal-Tysor leads a trio from Mercer averaging double-figure points on the season at 18.2 points per game. She is joined by Jaron Dougherty (15.4 ppg and 10.4 rpg) and Jada Lewis (12.4 ppg).
- As a team, the Bears are forcing 20.4 turnovers per game, while 9.6 of those are resulting in steals.
- Mercer is under the direction of veteran head coach Susie Gardner, who is in her 22nd season overall and 11th in Macon. She is the winningest coach in Bears' history with her teams amassing 20-plus wins in six of the last eight seasons. Gardner is no stranger to the SEC, having coached at Florida as an assistant (2007-10) and at Arkansas as head coach (2004-07).
