Polly Mack Leads Alabama Women's Golf on Opening Day of Blessing Collegiate

The senior is tied for sixth in the all-SEC showdown field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Against one of the top fields in the nation, the Alabama women's golf team opened the 2020-21 campaign Monday at the Blessing Collegiate Invitational presented by Tyson Foods with a 19-over par 307, at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
Senior Polly Mack paced the Crimson Tide in round one carding an even-par, 72, to open the season. Mack is tied for sixth and is one of eight other golfers that shot par or better from the 70-player field.
As a team, Alabama will enter the second round in ninth overall, but the Crimson Tide is only seven strokes from moving into the top five of the all-Southeastern Conference leaderboard.
Tournament host, Arkansas jumped out to the early team lead with an 1-over par 289, Monday, while LSU (293), Florida (295), Georgia (300), Auburn (300), Ole Miss (302), South Carolina(304), Tennessee (304), Texas A&M (307), Vanderbilt (314), Kentucky (314), Mississippi State (317) and Missouri (330) rounded out the 14 team all-conference field.

A Look at the Alabama Lineup
- Mack carded five birdies on the Blessings Golf Club, a par-72, 6,171-yard layout that played to its full difficulty Monday.
- Graduate student Kenzie Wright opened and concluded the first round with a birdie, collecting a total of four on the day at 3-over par 75 and tied for 20th overall.
- Senior Angelica Moresco is tied for 44th at 7-over par 79 heading into Tuesday's action.
- Sitting in a tie for 53rd, sophomore Caroline Curtis went 9-over 81 in her first round of the season.
- Fellow sophomore Emilie Øverås notched eight consecutive pars before the back nine proved to be challenging. Øverås stands in a tie for 59th.
- For the first time, all five Alabama players played together in the same group in a tournament, due to the new format guidelines.
