Alabama Men’s Golf Set to Compete at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate

Crimson Tide will tee off its second tournament of the fall season on Sunday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Fresh off its victory at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in the season-opening tournament in early October, the Alabama men's golf team is back in action for its second tournament of the fall season when it competes at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate.
The 14-team event which features all Southeastern Conference teams will take place Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 25-27, at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. Competition will be held on the par 72, 7,190-yard North course, which was designed by Hall of Fame golfer Tom Kite and architect Bob Kupp.
The Crimson Tide will be paired alongside Tennessee and Arkansas and tee off its first round on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. CT off Hole No. 1. Live scoring can be found throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
The Alabama Lineup
- Alabama's starting five include seniors Wilson Furr and Davis Shore, along with sophomores Canon Claycomb, Tyler Lipscomb and Thomas Ponder.
- Four of the five UA golfers were a part of the Tide's victory at Blessings.
- Claycomb, who along with Furr was named to the Preseason Haskins Award Watch List, will play in his first event of the 2020-21 campaign.
Last Time Out
- Four Alabama men's golfers finished among the top-20 individuals to help the Crimson Tide capture the 2020 Blessings Collegiate Invitational team title. UA finished five shots better than second-place Tennessee, closing the event with a team score of 4-over par 868 (291-282-295).
- With the win, Alabama claimed its first outright season-opening title since the national championship season of 2013-14.
- Furr, the 2020 U.S. Amateur stroke play champion, picked up where he left off this summer as he finished the 54-hole event tied for 10th overall at even par 216 (71-71-74).
- Lipscomb, playing in just his second career collegiate tournament, collected his first career top-10 result as he matched Furr with an even par 216 (75-69-72). Meanwhile Ponder finished in 12th overall with a 1-over 217 (70-71-76) and Shore gave UA four top-20 finishers as he tied for 16th overall with a 3-over 219 (75-71-73).
