Sunday, the Crimson Tide seeks its first win over the Gators since 2012
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 15 Alabama plays its second road game of the season when the Crimson Tide travels to Gainesville, Fla., to play Florida Sunday, Oct. 4, at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Kickoff from Donald R. Dizney Stadium is slated for 4 p.m. (CT) on SEC Network with Kyle Crooks and Matthew Stubbington calling action.
By the Numbers
- Alabama moved up to No. 15 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll released Sept. 29.
- UA is one of four Southeastern Conference teams ranked by the coaches, along with No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 8 Georgia, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 13 Vanderbilt.
Last Time Out
- The Tide battled for 110 minutes before ending in a 1-1 draw against the Mississippi State Bulldogs at the Mississippi State Soccer Field.
- The Crimson Tide stand at 1-0-1 after its road opener in Starkville, Miss.
- Freshman Felicia Knox knocked in her first collegiate goal in the fifth minute, marking her first goal in a Crimson jersey.
- From there, the Alabama defense took over. The Bulldogs managed just four shots over the opening 45 minutes of action, two which were nabbed by junior transfer goalkeeper Mckinley Crone.
- Play remained quiet for a majority of the remaining 85 minutes, before the Bulldogs' lone goal came the last second of regulation.
- Through two overtime periods, both squads fired off a pair of shots a piece, but no luck in finding the back of the net.
Scouting Florida
- The 2020 Gators consists of 34 players, including 10 freshmen and two transfers.
- Florida returns nine starters from the 2019 team that made the program's 22nd NCAA appearance in 2019.
- Deanne Rose, a member of Canada's National Team, is the only current NCAA Division I player who played in both the 2016 Olympics and 2019 World Cup.
- Florida opened their season at home with a 1-1 2OT tie against then-No. 8 Georgia.
Series with the Gators
- Alabama seeks its second win in the all-time series with Florida and first victory since Oct. 19, 2012, when the Tide shutout the Gators at home, 1-0.
- Sunday's match against Florida marks the 25th meeting in history between the two squads, as Alabama trails the series, 1-20-3.
- Two seasons ago, the Tide battled the Gators to a scoreless 2OT draw at the Alabama Soccer Stadium on Oct. 14, 2018.
