Former Alabama players shine in the fifth week of the 2020 NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The fifth week of the 2020-21 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the highlights from week five by former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Henry Ruggs III shined for the Raiders thanks to a pair of deep balls this past Sunday. The Las Vegas wideout tallied two catches for a team-high 118 yards and reached the end zone for the first time in his NFL career. Alongside Ruggs was former Tide tailback Josh Jacobs. Jacobs carried the ball 23 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns. On the receiving end, Jacobs caught two passes for eight yards. Their combined efforts helped the Raiders to a win over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Calvin Ridley also continued his success in the receiving game for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Ridley hauled in a team-high eight catches for 136 yards. Thanks to another standout game, Ridley moved to 485 receiving yards on the season, a total that currently ranks fourth in the NFL.
Week five was also highlighted by yet another strong performance from Derrick Henry. The former Heisman winner carried the ball 19 times for the Titans, totaling 57 yards on the ground and reaching the end zone twice. Henry also caught one pass for six yards, contributing in a big way as Tennessee's cruised past the Buffalo Bills, 42-16.
On the defensive side of the ball, two former Alabama defensive backs helped lead their teams to victories. Ronnie Harrison reached the end zone for the first time in his NFL career after intercepting a pass and taking it 47 yards to the house for the Cleveland Browns. Harrison also added two tackles and two pass breakups in his start against the Indianapolis Colts. Marlon Humphrey provided support for the Baltimore defense from his cornerback spot. Humphrey recorded five total tackles and added a sack to go with a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry. The defensive back also forced a fumble that resulted in a Ravens touchdown.
Two former Tide defensive linemen also excelled in week five. Jonathan Allen recorded eight total tackles for the Washington Football Team. Fellow Tide linemate and current New York Giants tackle Dalvin Tomlinson tallied six total tackles, including two for loss and a sack, to go with a quarterback hurry.
