PARIS - Alabama women's tennis alum Alexa Guarachi and partner Desirae Krawczyk advanced to Sunday's women's doubles final of the 2020 French Open before falling in a tough, 6-4, 7-5 match to the Grand Slam's defending champions and No. 2 seeded duo of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, at Roland Garros Stadium.
It was Babos' and Mladenovic's fourth Grand Slam win together and second in 2020 after winning the Australian Open in January, while Guarachi and Krawczyk were in their first Grand Slam final.
Guarachi and Krawczyk, seeded No. 14 coming into the week, advanced to the quarterfinals by upsetting the No. 1 doubles tandem in the world and the Open's No. 1 seed, Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová, in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, in the round of 16. The duo then knocked off No. 7-seeded Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara, 6-0, 6-4, to make it to the semifinals.
