Men’s Tennis Tops Drake, 6-1, in Minneapolis

The Crimson Tide swept the Bulldogs in singles play
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Alabama men's tennis team came out victorious over Drake, 6-1, on Friday afternoon inside the Baseline Tennis Center. The Crimson Tide improves to an overall 6-1 record after their first of two road matches in Minneapolis this weekend.
Senior Zhe Zhou continues to lead the team with an undefeated 6-0 record in dual match singles play, while junior Jeremy Gschwendtner tallied another win to make his streak, 5-0.
Doubles
- Two of the three doubles matches came down to a tiebreaker, but ultimately the Tide could not earn the point. Junior Sam Fischer and Zhou won the lone match, 7-6 (1) while junior Patrick Kaukovalta and senior Edson Ortiz fell, 4-6. No. 40 senior Alexey Nesterov and junior Riccardo Roberto fought hard, coming back from a 4-2 deficit to tie it 6-6, but came up short in the end, 6-7 (3).
Singles
- The Crimson Tide showed their endurance, winning all six singles matches. Kaukovaulta earned the first point for the team with his 6-1, 6-2 win, followed by Nesterov's 6-2, 6-2 victory. Alabama clinched the match with straight set wins by Zhou and Riccardo. Gschwendtner topped his opponent, 6-3, 6-4, and Ortiz rounded out the day in a three-set battle, ultimately winning the tiebreaker, 10-3.
