Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of Alabama Spring Shootout

The Crimson Tide won 2-of-4 doubles matches and 7-of-8 singles matches
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team finished day two of the Alabama Spring Shootout inside the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Tennis Facility Saturday night. The Crimson Tide ended the night winning 2-of-4 doubles matches and 7-of-8 singles matches.
Round-by-Round
- The Crimson Tide won 2-of-4 matches in the doubles round. Freshman Marcelo Sepulveda Garza and senior Zhe Zhou swept Coutinho/Blissard (USA), 6-0, to get things started. Juniors Jeremy Gschwendtner and Riccardo Roberto earned the second win of the round against Collard/Petko (USA), 6-2. Junior Patrick Kaukovalta and senior Edson Ortiz fell short to Blumberg/Cernoch (UNC), 6-4, as did Junior Sam Fischer and senior Alexey Nesterov to Bugaj/Delcour (USA), 6-4.
- In the first round of singles, Alabama won 4-of-5 matches. Kaukovalta swept Bugaj (USA), 6-4, 6-2, along with Gschwendtner who beat Petko (USA), 6-2, 6-2. Nesterov came out victorious against Collard (USA), 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 and No. 96 Roberto defeated No. 113 Cloes in a three-set battle 7-6 (3), 7-5, 6-3. Ortiz fought hard but ultimately came up short against No. 82 Peck, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
- In the second of round of singles, Alabama went a perfect 3-for-3. Sepulveda Garza downed Coutinho (USA), 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Avi Shugar swept Blissard (USA), 6-2, 6-0, and Zhou came out on top in a three-set match 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3.
