Men’s Tennis Concludes Day One of Alabama Spring Shootout

The Crimson Tide won 3-of-4 matches in both rounds of doubles play
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team completed the first day of the Alabama Spring Shootout on Friday night inside the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Tennis Facility. In total, Alabama went 6-2 against South Alabama's doubles pairs.
Round-by-Round
- Alabama won 3-of-4 matches in the first round of doubles play. Junior Patrick Kaukovalta and senior Edson Ortiz downed No. 30 Cloes/Marzol 6-1 to get things started. They were shortly followed by a win by junior Jeremy Gschwendtner and freshman Marcelo Sepulveda Garza against Bugaj/Blissard, 6-1. No. 40 senior Alexey Nesterov and junior Riccardo Roberto rounded out the victories with a 6-3 win over Petko/Coutinho. Junior Sam Fischer and senior Zhe Zhou fell short, 6-3, to Collard/Delcour.
- In the second round of play, Alabama once again won 3-of-4 matches to end the night. Roberto/Zhou came out on top 7-5 in a close match with Collard/Delcour. The pair of Ortiz/Sepulveda Garza were victorious against Petko/Coutinho, as were Gschwendtner/Fischer against Bugaj/Blissard, with both matches ending in 6-3 wins. Kaukovalta/Nesterov fought hard but came up short in the end to No. 30 Cloes/Marzol, 6-4.
