
Women's Tennis Signs Transfer Oleksandra Gorchanyuk to Program

Gorchanyuk will enter The Capstone as a freshman this upcoming January
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team strengthened its roster after adding transfer Oleksandra (Sasha) Gorchanyuk from Kansas to the program for the upcoming dual match season, head coach Jenny Mainz announced on Friday.
"We're excited about Oleksandra joining our Alabama Tennis Family. She brings a fierce competitive spirit and a gritty work ethic to our BAMA Team," Mainz stated. She's definitely going to help our program and provide more depth to our lineup."
Gorchanyuk who hails from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, will join the team in January 2020. She has been ranked as high as 358 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF), while 10.78 is her highest Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). She has performed well in many tournaments including making the semifinals of singles and doubles at the ITF G3 in Burlington, Ontario. She also won the singles title at the 2018 Veneto ITF Championship.
Other highlights from the incoming freshman include defeating two Top 100 ITF opponents, along with playing on Team Canada from 2011-16. During that time Gorchanyuk was ranked the No. 1 player in U14 and the No. 7 player in U18. In addition, she has an ITF World Ranking of No. 795 and Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranking of No. 1230.
