Alabama Volleyball Falls in Three Sets to No. 23 Florida State Friday in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alabama fell in its final non-conference matchup of the season, with 23rd-ranked Florida State taking the match in three sets.
Alabama (8-3) fell in straight sets to No. 23 Florida State (6-3) by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-17 respectively. The Seminoles did not trail in the first and second sets, but the Crimson Tide took its first lead early in the third set and drew within one point seven more times before Florida State closed it out to win by eight.

Set-by-Set
- Set One (Florida State 25, Alabama 16): Florida State scored three unanswered to open the match and extended its lead to six at Alabama's first timeout, 9-3. Later still leading by six, 11-5, the Seminoles scored three in a row to make it a nine-point game but four unanswered from the Tide cut that lead to five, forcing a Florida State timeout at 14-9. A block from senior Ginger Perinar and freshman Alyiah Wells after the break stretched Alabama's scoring run to five-straight. The Seminoles began expanding its lead in the second half of the set however, leading by nine at the Tide's second timeout, 23-14, and taking the set by the same margin, 25-16.
- Set Two (Florida State 25, Alabama 13): Tied at 2-2 early in the set, Florida State used a 6-1 run capped by four-straight points to move ahead 9-3 before Alabama called a timeout. Leading by six again later, 15-9, back-to-back points from the Seminoles pushed the margin to eight and the Tide spent its second timeout. It was a nine-point Florida State lead at the 20-point mark xxxxx
- Set Three (Florida State 25, Alabama 17): A kill from Eva Borrowdale early in the third frame gave Alabama its first lead of the match at 3-2. Three-straight from Florida State swung the lead back in the home team's favor but the Tide kept it close, drawing within a point seven times before media timeout down 15-12. Alabama called a team timeout four points after the media timeout, trailing 18-13, and its second down 23-15. Two points from each team brought the set to its final score of 25-17 and gave Florida State the three-set win.
Keys to the Match
- Alabama was limited to a season-low .045 hitting percentage, opposed to a .372 clip from Florida State
- FSU made the most of its early momentum, not trailing in either the first or second sets. Alabama took its first lead in the third and drew within one point seven more times but the Seminoles eventually pulled away in the second half of the frame.
