Riccardo Roberto and Alexey Nesterov Move to Singles Final in Day Two of Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall

Roberto (Crimson) and Nesterov (Houndstooth) went 2-0 in singles play on Saturday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior Alexey Nesterov and junior Riccardo Roberto advanced to the final of their respective singles draws in day two of the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall at the Alabama Tennis Stadium on Saturday. The two will play in each of their single finals, along with their doubles final tomorrow beginning with doubles play at 9 a.m.
Round-by-Round
- In the second round of the Crimson Singles Draw, Roberto took down Tim Reutzel of Tulane in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5), with a close tiebreaker in the second set. Freshman Marcelo Sepulveda Garza came up short against Clement Marzol of South Alabama, 6-4, 6-2, to move to the consolation draw.
- On the Houndstooth side, Nesterov earned the win over Michal Lusovsky of UAB, coming out on top in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Avi Shugar battled against Ole Miss' Jan Soren Hain in a back-and-forth three-setter, before ultimately taking the loss, 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-5.
- Nesterov continued his success in the third round of singles play, defeating Simon Junk of Ole Miss, 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the Houndstooth Draw Singles Final tomorrow. Sepulveda Garza fell again in the afternoon, dropping a tough match to Finn Stodder (Tennessee), 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-2.
- Roberto took down his third straight opponent, Lukas Engelhardt of Ole Miss, in the third round of singles play, 7-5, 6-3, to move on to the Crimson Draw Singles Final on Sunday. Shugar came up short to Britton Johnston (Georgia), 6-2, 6-3, in consolations.
Tournament Note
- Roberto made his way to the finals at the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall for the second consecutive year. In his sophomore campaign, Roberto was crowned the singles champion in the Houndstooth Draw.

- The last day of the tournament will be tomorrow with the final round of doubles and singles competition starting at 9 a.m.
- Roberto/Nesterov will play Chrysostom/Prata (Tennessee) in the Crimson Doubles Final tomorrow at 9 a.m., while Shugar/Sepulveda Garza are set to take on Bertsch/Rodriguez (Oklahoma) in consolations at the same time.
- Roberto will face off against Tim Sandkaulen (Ole Miss) in the Crimson Singles Final, while Nesterov will take on Mark Mandlik (Oklahoma) in the Houndstooth Singles Final. Shugar and Sepulveda Garza will play consolations. All singles matches will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m.
