Alba Cortina Pou Wins Belulla Open Singles Title in Home Country of Spain

The rising senior was unseeded in the tournament and defeated No. 5 Nora Ayala Serra in the title match
CANOVELLES, Spain – Rising senior Alba Cortina Pou was crowned the singles champion of the Belulla Open in her home country of Spain on Saturday after winning all five of her matches in the tournament.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Cortina Pou was unseeded in the event and defeated four seeded players on her way to the singles title.
- The Blanes, Spain native, won all of her matches in straight sets including defeating No. 5 seed Nora Ayala Serra, 6-4, 2-1, before Serra retired in the tournament championship.
- Cortina Pou picked up a first round victory against No. 7 seed Elena Gunfaus Sola 6-3, 6-0, before downing Mar Gendra Felip, 6-4, 6-1, in round two.
- She then bested No. 4 seed Natalia Mora Ballo, 6-3, 6-1, and the No. 2 seed in Silvia Martinez, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinal before going on to defeat Serra in the championship.
UP NEXT
- Cortina Pou will play one more summer tournament before she and the entire Alabama women's tennis team returns to campus in the coming weeks. The squad's first fall tournament will be on Sept. 27-29 at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas.
