TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Four members of the Alabama soccer team have been named to the 2019 SEC Preseason Watch List, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Senior Nealy Martin as well as juniors Chloe Maize, Taylor Morgan, and Casey Wertz earned the honor. The four players are among 59 total student athletes from around the league.
As team captain, Martin begins her senior and final season for the Tide. The Birmingham, Ala., native has acquired 50 starts in 56 games played, as well as seven career points (2G, 3A). Her most notable goal was the 1-0 game-winner against then ranked No. 5 Texas A&M last season. This goal secured the Alabama victory, which marked the first win in program history against a Top Five ranked opponent.
Wertz enters her junior season as one of the Tide's top offensive options. In 40 career matches and 28 starts, the Marietta, Ga., native has tallied 25 points on 12 goals, including two game-winners and one assist. She is the leading returning points scorer from the squad, acquiring 16 points from eight goals last season.
Morgan, a Westfield, N.J., native registered nine points in her sophomore season, increasing her career total to 16. She has scored five goals and leads the team with six assists in 33 starts out of 39 career games.
Maize, a junior forward from Cleveland, Tenn., has tallied two goals, one assist, and one game-winner in her 25 games played.
