Alabama's 16 players are split across nine different summer leagues
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Sixteen members of the 2018-19 Alabama baseball roster are taking part in collegiate summer leagues spread across the United States. Below is an update on some of the Crimson Tide's standouts so far:
Justin King | OF/INF | Willmar Stingers (Northwoods)
King earned himself a spot on the Northwoods League All-Star Team thanks to an impressive first half of the summer. The outfielder leads the Stingers in home runs (5) and RBI (21) while drawing 15 walks, a total that is second on the team. King has seen time in 35 games and owns a .277 (31-112) average with seven doubles and 19 runs scored to round out his stat line.
Chase Lee | RHP | Bethesda Big Train (Cal Ripken)
Lee has continued his standout summer into the early weeks of July. The right-hander has lowered his ERA by .40 in the last month to 1.26 (3 ER/21.1 IP) and holds a 1-0 record across his 12 games of action. Lee has struck out 40 compared to just six walks and leads the Cal Ripken League in saves with five while his strikeout total is good for second.
Jacob McNairy | RHP | Mat-Su Miners (Alaska)
McNairy's summer in Alaska has seen the right-hander assume the closer role for Mat-Su. In 11 appearances, the rising sophomore has struck out 11 and walked just one while recording a league-high seven saves in as many chances. McNairy has maintained a perfect 0.00 ERA (12.0 IP) to sit atop the leaderboard in that category among league arms.
T.J. Reeves | OF | Wisconsin Woodchucks (Northwoods)
The late-season success that Reeves posted for the Crimson Tide has carried over into his summer. The Birmingham native leads Wisconsin in average at .348 (24-69) with half of his hits going for extra-bases, including six doubles, a triple and five home runs. Reeves has added 16 RBI and 21 runs scored to go with his 11 walks and five stolen bases in as many attempts.
Garret Rukes | LHP | Willmar Stingers (Northwoods)
Rukes has parlayed his first-half success into a spot on the Northwoods League All-Star Team, joining King. The left-hander has started seven games for Willmar and leads the team in innings pitched with 41.0 while maintaining a 3.51 ERA (16 ER). Rukes has struck out 27 compared to three walks and is tied for the team lead in wins with five as part of his 5-2 record overall.
