The Crimson Tide is the only program in the nation to rank in the top-10 for both the men and the women in terms of team grade point average
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama swimming and diving continues to reap the benefits of a strong season in the pool and the classroom. The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) announced its Scholar All-America teams Tuesday, revealing that Alabama is the only program to have both its men's and women's squads figure in the top-10 nationally by team grade point average.
The CSCAA recognizes teams that achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the spring semester.
"Coach (Coley) Stickels inherits a model of academic and athletic success as evidenced by the Tide's GPAs this past semester," CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart said.
Alabama finished ninth among NCAA Division I women's teams with a 3.68 team GPA in the spring, while the Tide was seventh among the men's squads with a 3.53. Both the men and women both ranked first in the Southeastern Conference by team GPA, while the women were the only SEC squad ranked in the top-15 nationally.
Alabama's women joined Stanford and Kansas as the only schools to finish in the top-10 by team GPA and score at the 2019 NCAA Championships. The Tide men, who finished seventh at the 2019 NCAA Championships, were joined by Harvard as the only two schools to finish in the top-10 at the national championships and in terms of team GPA.
