ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior No. 47 Mazen Osama will take on No. 45 Dan Little from Utah in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships on Monday, May 20 at 3:30 p.m. CT at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Osama and sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta will also play No. 17 Dominik Kellovsky and Nathan Ponwith of Arizona State in the first round of the Doubles Championships on Tuesday, May 21 with the time to be announced.
Osama will look to make another run in the singles championships after last season he became the first Alabama men's tennis player to make it to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Cairo, Egypt native, defeated three ranked opponents in the 2018 tournament before falling to the No. 1 overall seed in the final eight.
This dual match season, Osama has a 14-12 record in singles, while playing at the No. 1 spot. The senior has eight wins over nationally-ranked foes. Utah's Little has an overall record of 15-6, with a 6-2 mark against nationally-ranked opponents. The Utes' senior has a 4-1 record in singles over his last 10 matches.
In doubles, Osama is still looking for his first win in the NCAA Doubles Championships after taking a first round exit in his previous two appearances. He and Kaukovalta have dominated this season with a current No. 11 ranking and a 15-7 record. The duo has gone 7-3 against nationally-ranked opponents, while coming out victorious in their last five matches.
Kellovsky/Ponwith of ASU have a record of 13-7, including a 3-6 mark against top-125 opponents. The duo is 6-3 over their last 10 contests.
The matches will have live scoring, along with a live stream available on the USTA website.
