TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Sophomore Angelica Moresco will represent the Alabama women's golf team in the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championships when she tees off Friday afternoon at the Blessings Golf Club, in Fayetteville, Ark.
Moresco, one of 132 players to reach the national finals site, earned her place in the nation's premier collegiate event by finishing tied for eighth overall at last week's NCAA Auburn Regional with a 1-under par 215. After last week's performance, Moresco stands at No. 59 in the latest Golfstat individual rankings. The Caldogno, Italy, native is playing her best golf of the season as she heads into the NCAA Championships with a team leading five top-10 finish of the year and tallies 14 rounds below par.
This will be just the fourth Alabama women's golfer to advance to Nationals as an individual and the first under head coach Mic Potter. Moresco is the first Alabama individual golfer to compete at NCAA Championships since Judi Schneider's appearance in 1989.
During Potter's tenure the Crimson Tide have played in 13 NCAA championships, including capturing the school's first national title in 2012 in Franklin, Tenn. Alabama alum Emma Talley earned the Crimson Tide's first NCAA individual championship at the 2015 tournament in Bradenton, Fla.
Moresco will be paired with Allyson Geer-Park of Michigan State and Kathleen Scavo of Oregon for the first two rounds. That trio will tee off hole No. 1 at 12:50 p.m. CT on Friday and hole No. 10 at 8:10 a.m. CT on Saturday.
The 72-hole tournament, which is contested on the par-73 6,397-yard course, features a cut from 24 to 15 teams after three rounds, and to the top nine individuals not on an advancing team. Monday's final round is televised on the Golf Channel, with coverage beginning at 3 p.m. as an individual national champion is crowned. Live scoring for all four rounds is available on golfstat.com.
