Crimson Tide student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff took part in a work day to help in the rebuilding process in Lee County
BEAUREGARD, Ala. – A contingent of University of Alabama student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff joined forces with their counterparts from Auburn last weekend as part of an overall effort to rebuild following the tornadoes that swept through Lee County, Ala., in March.
"We are rivals," UA soccer player Taylor Morgan said. "Some of these kids, we play them during the season, but to see us all come together for something that's so much bigger than just two sports teams is incredible."
Saturday's work day came on the eighth anniversary of the tornado that devastated Tuscaloosa. After the 2011 tragedy, the Tigers made a similar trek to the Capstone to help in the Tuscaloosa recovery.
"I think it really makes you understand that there's so much more than sports, there's so much more than two rival schools," Morgan said. "This is our state. This is us together. This is our community."
The Tide and Tigers worked on three houses through the day, hammering together the frames that will make up the walls of the structures.
