No. 43 Alabama Captures First Win at No. 23 Florida in Program History, 4-1, on Friday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 43rd-ranked Alabama women's tennis team upset No. 23 Florida with 4-1 decision on Friday in the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. The victory marks the first-ever in Gainesville and just the second win over the Gators in program history, as the last win dates back to a 4-3 decision on March 23, 2014, in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama entered the day with an 1-41 overall record against UF, but with the win, the Crimson Tide improves to a 16-9 overall record including a 4-6 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while the Gators fall to 9-9 and 6-5 in league play.
The Crimson Tide dominated doubles play, as senior Andie Daniell and sophomore Moka Ito collected the first double's victory of the contest in a 6-2 decision over Tsveta Dimitrova and Ida Jarlskog on court one. Juniors Alba Cortina Pou and Luca Fabian clinched the doubles point for Alabama, as the pair topped Marlee Zein and Sydney Berlin in a 6-2 result on court two, giving the Tide a 1-0 match lead headed into singles play.
Alabama did not let up and took a quick 3-0 match advantage to start singles, as No. 68 Daniell upset Florida's No. 8 ranked singles player Jarlskog in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Shortly after, Selim overcame Katie Kubicz 6-2, 6-4, on court six.
The Gators responded back with a win of its own, as Dimitrova defeated junior Jacqueline Pelletier 6-4, 6-3. On court three, Cortina Pou went the extra mile and won a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision over Zein, resulting in program history.
The Crimson Tide stays on the road as it travels to Columbia, S.C., to take on No. 3 South Carolina on Sunday, at 12 p.m. CT.
